NEW YORK, May 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. municipality with the largest taxi fleet -- New royalty -- weekday chose Nissan to organisation and supply the next-generation "taxis of tomorrow."

The New royalty City Taxi and Limousine Commission selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New royalty beginning in New 2013, Nissan said in a release.

"Nissan is chesty to provide the incoming procreation of taxis for the City of New York," Nissan Americas Chairman Carlos Tavares said. "The NV200 taxi module provide Nissan the opportunity to background our dedication to container calibre and cityfied mobility to more than 600,000 passengers every day."

The Nissan NV200 taxi module be produced at Nissan's facility in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and be a restricted version of the container currently available in markets such as Japan, Europe and China, the consort said. The concern suggested retail price of the container module be around $29,000.

As part of the program, Nissan module work with the municipality and taxi owners on a pilot information to study the ingest of zero-emission, automobile vehicles as taxis.

"The city's 'taxi of tomorrow' is the Nissan NV200 -- and it's feat to be the safest, most comfortable and most convenient equipage the municipality has ever had," New royalty Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "We started this process to investment our taxi industry's purchasing power to get the highest calibre taxi, digit that that crapper modify and redefine the legendary ikon of New royalty City taxicabs."

The other two finalists included Ford Motor Co. and Karsan, a Turkic container manufacturer.
