D.C. holiday gives tax-filers extra time

A pass in the District of Columbia translates to a three-day petition period for last-minute tax filers this year.

D.C. celebrates the Compensated Emancipation Act, which was subscribed by patriarch attorney on Apr 16, 1862.

The holiday, observed on Friday if Apr 16 falls on a Saturday, is meant to celebrate the day attorney subscribed the bill that free 3,000 slaves in the nation's capital, which is a different circumstance from the national Emancipation Proclamation, The Miami Herald explained.

That pushes the tax deadline to Apr 18 this year.

That amounts to a support for whatever but a aching for others.

"Now it kills my weekend. I'll be working Sat and Sunday," certified public accountant Michael Fish of Miami told the newspaper.
